My choice was the domestic Dry Step™ Thermal Mat

Oma valintani oli kotimainen Dry Step® Termomatto - Termomatto.fi

The fully domestic thermal mat that has been on my balcony for a couple of years now shows its best qualities again as the concrete floor of the balcony cools down with the weather.

The mat still looks like new. Additionally, I was surprised in the spring to find that the floor under the mat had remained completely dry and clean, and didn’t need to be washed.

The thermal mat promises to stay warm underfoot even in winter, and the idea of walking on the balcony in socks during the cold season felt pleasant. Sometimes our guests step out on the balcony to “get some fresh air,” and I used to have a row of slippers waiting by the balcony door.

The thermal mat fit well on my long and narrow balcony, which is only 1.26 meters wide but seven meters long. At first, I thought about installing a mat about a meter wide lengthwise, but the empty spaces left on the sides bothered me. Luckily, I called the seller about it, who gave me a priceless tip:

It’s best to place the thermal mat crosswise in shorter pieces, not as one long strip like mats usually are. There are two sensible reasons for this. First, of course, is that the mat can be evenly spread everywhere. The second reason – which I think is even more important – is that if a part of the mat gets dirty, you can easily take that piece up from the floor and wash it in the bathroom or replace it if needed. Moving a seven-meter mat would be a bit more difficult.

Ordering, delivery, and installing the mat were all effortless steps. The thermal mat roll arrived conveniently via Matkahuolto and was in place in no time.

The mat’s insulating base is made of breathable special foam that effectively prevents cold. The thermal mat’s closed-cell foam does not absorb moisture under any conditions and keeps the surface warm.

The balcony’s depth was measured, and the necessary pieces were cut from the thermal mat roll. All that was needed was to put the balcony mat in place, and the balcony’s new floor surface was ready! I don’t remember the total time, but you can imagine how quickly it was installed – if you can even call it installation. A measuring tape and a utility knife were enough tools, and putting it down was more about placing the pieces in position. In my opinion, the thermal mat was as easy to lay on the floor as any other mat!

Another good thing about the thermal mat is that if there are posts or other obstacles on the balcony or terrace, their spots can easily be cut out with a utility knife.

The thermal mat looks and feels great! And truly… you can walk on it barefoot – even in winter.
