The season for terraces and balconies has begun!
It's that time of year when beautiful and inviting balconies and terraces decorate interior design publications both in magazines and on social media. There are many styles and tastes, but one thing unites them all: each is decorated and arranged for its owner, designed as a place for them, their family, and friends to spend time together.
Terrace/balcony or wasted space?
Unfortunately, terraces and balconies often go unused as extra space in the home due to lack of time, money, or energy. The absence of meaningful decor doesn’t encourage spending free time there with family and friends, so the space is often forgotten or used temporarily to store old or broken household items, such as cardboard waste and old newspapers.
What makes a terrace comfortable?
Terraces differ in decor according to the user’s needs. However, needs and execution don’t always match, which means the full potential of a terrace or balcony remains unused. One balcony may be too cluttered for its small size, while another, larger terrace may feel empty and uninviting. It’s good to consider what kind of space I personally need, what I want to create from my extra space, and what kind of atmosphere I want it to provide.
For families with children, space and safe, functional decor solutions may be important. The terrace floor could have a soft outdoor rug where board games can be played or a floor cushion to lounge on comfortably while reading a comic book. Older people might prefer a cozy space decorated with green plants, inviting them to enjoy moments in everyday life and socialize with family and friends through beautiful and detailed decor.
An outdoor rug creates the foundation and comfort for terrace and balcony decor
Often, slippers or sandals are placed by the door to the terrace or balcony, ready for stepping outside. Walking barefoot, the difference between indoor floors and terrace or balcony surfaces is immediately noticeable, especially since concrete surfaces often feel rough and cold, making the experience less comfortable. That’s why an outdoor rug is a top choice for many when planning terrace or balcony decor. The rug should withstand various weather and temperature conditions, so it’s worth checking out the outdoor rug selection.

A warm outdoor rug for the terrace
Among outdoor rugs on the market, the Dry Step™ Thermo Rug has been very popular as a terrace and balcony rug, especially for its softness, thermal insulation, and comfortable feel underfoot.
The ground beneath terraces and the concrete floors of balconies radiate cold, but the Dry Step® Thermo Rug effectively blocks drafts. Its foam base stores heat from the user and reflects it back, making the floor feel warm to bare feet all year round. As a user of the Dry Step™ Thermo Rug, you no longer need slippers or sandals on the terrace or balcony!
My own terrace is still waiting for spring decor after winter. Fortunately, the base is in good condition, as the same Dry Step™ Thermo Rug has been in use for three full years. It has endured lively play, feet rushing in from the outdoor sauna to cool off on the terrace, summer nights spent on the terrace, and dozens of pancake parties with family and friends. This spring, thanks to the glazing and the rug, the terrace temperature has risen to as high as 24 degrees Celsius, and the terrace door has been open most of the day. It’s probably time to turn my attention and feet to my own terrace and start planning this summer’s green plants and decor.
